Chaos on Agadir Beaches: Illegal Squatters Turn Vacationer Paradise into Nightmare

Despite the efforts of the local authorities, the phenomenon of illegal and anarchic occupation of the public maritime domain on several beaches under the jurisdiction of the prefecture of Agadir Ida-Outanane and other practices resist over time.

A decision by the Wali of the Souss-Massa region and Governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture clearly and formally prohibits the exercise of any activity on the beaches and in their surroundings without authorization from the competent local authorities, defines and frames the circuits of activities on the sites to serve the vacationers. However, it is not followed. On the beaches, it is desolation.

Fragmentation of spaces on the beaches by people who squat and rent them with parasols at prices they impose on vacationers, anarchic exploitation of the land adjoining the beaches, transformation of plots of the public maritime domain into informal parking lots. The chaos caused by illegal occupations of the public maritime domain remains, turning the trip of several Moroccan and foreign families to the beaches of the Souss-Massa region, and more particularly the areas reserved for vacationers in the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture, into a nightmare, reports Al Akhbar.

Faced with the recurrence of the phenomenon, it is urgent that the competent local authorities act.
