Chaos on Morocco’s Northern Beaches: Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Vendors and Safety Hazards

On the beaches and cliffs in Tetouan, Martil, M’diq and Fnideq, the influx of tourists during this summer season rhymes with disorder and anarchy. Local authorities are being called upon to take urgent and firm measures to ensure the safety of visitors.
Faced with the illegal occupation of the maritime domain by parasol renters on the beaches, disrupting the tranquility of visitors, and the circulation of motorcyclists on the sidewalks of the cliffs, threatening the safety of pedestrians, the authorities have taken their responsibilities. On Tuesday, they seized parasols and chairs, illegally placed on the beaches, and summoned the managers of tourist establishments, hotels and residences to free the public maritime domain that was anarchically occupied, reports Al Akhbar.
Overwhelmed by these excesses that disrupt their tranquility and prevent them from fully enjoying these relaxation areas, the summer visitors call for action against the motorcyclists and those who ride horses on the beaches, particularly on the beach of Sidi Abdeslam in Tetouan and in Oued Laou where a minor was recently injured. They also ask to strengthen health and security controls on the roads, boulevards and beaches, crowded with tourists during this summer season.
The authorities are also being called upon to control the quality and prices of products offered to summer visitors. This, to avoid the overcharging practiced by some businesses and to allow visitors to have a good vacation.
