Morocco Cracks Down on Beach Chair Chaos to Improve Tourist Experience

Faced with growing discontent from vacationers who denounce the anarchy on certain Moroccan beaches due to chair and umbrella renters, local authorities have taken a number of measures to put an end to public disorder.
Towards the end of disorder on beaches? Local authorities in several coastal cities have recently made decisions regarding the prohibition of anarchic installation of chairs and umbrellas intended for rental on the sand of beaches in the north, east, and south. Renters are obligated to remain in the locations previously assigned to them, and to set up chairs and umbrellas only at the customer’s request. These measures aim to improve the experience of vacationers and guarantee everyone’s right to enjoy the beach.
Another measure: the authorities of the M’diq-Fnideq prefecture have banned the issuance of permits for renting umbrellas and chairs along the coast for this season. The provincial authorities of Berkane, who oversee the summer season at Saïdia beach, have followed M’diq-Fnideq’s example. In the Souss-Massa region, the wali of the region has decided to impose a set of rules and restrictions on Agadir beach, in order to improve public order and safety, we learn.
