Morocco’s El Bakkali Clinches Bronze in Disappointing World Athletics Championships

Moroccan athletics brought back from Doha, as hunting spoils, a bronze medal, far from the expectations of the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation and especially the Moroccans.
Moroccan athletes have been disappointing. Despite their experience and, above all, their promises to bring back a good harvest to the homeland, they only managed to snatch a bronze medal, thanks to Soufiane El Bakkali in the 3000m steeplechase.
The London silver medalist, one of the big favorites for the world title, just missed out on the gold at the 2019 Doha World Athletics Championships, reports batal.ma, specifying that El Bakhali finished third with a time of 8’03"76, behind the world and Olympic champion, the Kenyan Conseslus Kipruto, with a time of 8’01"36 and the young Ethiopian, Lamecha Girma (18 years old), with a time of 8’03"76.
According to the same source, the big disappointment was remarkable with the "icon" of Moroccan athletics for more than a decade, Abdelaâti Iguider. The athlete with multiple distinctions was eliminated in the 1500m semi-finals, after occupying the last position during these World Championships in Doha.
As for Arafi, she finished seventh and second to last in the 800m final. The native of Khouribga ranked 9th in the 1500m final.
The one who was able to achieve a great feat during this sporting event is the Moroccan Hamza Sahli (26 years old), who finished his race in 8th place with a time of 2’1"49.
This result is a very good performance for this young athlete who gave his all, despite the tough competition and, above all, the climate currently prevailing in the Qatari capital, recalls the same media.
