Morocco Arrests Teacher for Online Threats Against Foreign Volunteers

Wednesday 7 August 2019, by Bladi.net

A primary school teacher was arrested on the evening of Monday, August 5, 2019, in Taroudant, by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police, in a case of advocacy of terrorist acts and incitement to commit them.

The defendant posted a Facebook post in which he praised dangerous criminal acts against foreign tourists doing volunteer work in Morocco and incited them. Immediately, the National Brigade of the Judicial Police, in close coordination with the services of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance, went after him and finally arrested him.

According to the press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the searches carried out at the suspect’s home led to the seizure of a laptop and a mobile phone that he would have used to post the post related to terrorism and extremism. An act contrary to the law and punishable by a prison sentence.

The same source specifies that the suspect was placed in custody at the disposal of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office specialized in terrorism cases, which will make it possible to determine, in the coming days, the ins and outs of this case and all its motives and circumstances.

It should be recalled that a dozen young Belgian tourist women, having sacrificed their summer vacation, volunteered for a humanitarian action in Morocco. Indeed, these young volunteers had invested themselves in the opening up of an isolated village, in the Taroudant region. An act that had delighted more than one.
