Moroccans Rally in Shorts to Protest Harassment of Foreign Volunteers

Threatened with death for wearing shorts on a construction site near Taroudant, three young Belgian volunteer girls decided to return home while the Belgian organizers of these camps announced that no new group of volunteers will be sent to Morocco. It is in this atmosphere that several Moroccans and Moroccans organized, on Saturday, August 10, 2019, in Casablanca, a march to denounce what they describe as "obscurantism".

"Stop the ignorant obscurantists!" This is the slogan chanted throughout this march which follows the "Let’s short them" support campaign to show solidarity with the Belgian girls who came to open up a village in Taroudant and were victims of misogynistic remarks from a primary school teacher and a PJD deputy.

This demonstration, which mobilized a large crowd including personalities, on the Corniche d’Aïn Diab, aimed, according to its initiators, to "march and do plogging" to "send a message to the obscurantists who want to impose extremist thought on us and destroy the image of our country," reports the 2M channel.
