Moroccans Rally Against Hate Speech, Support Belgian Volunteers

In response to the "call for decapitation" launched by a teacher and, to the reaction of a deputy against Belgian girls dressed in shorts, on a construction site near Taroudant, Moroccans launch, "S(H)ORTONS-LES!", a call to counter the "spreaders of hatred".

"Let’s get them out, these spreaders of hatred, let’s no longer give them an audience, let’s show them that Morocco is us and that we are the solution!", In this call, Moroccan personalities and actors from all walks of life, such as journalists, academics, community activists, writers, artists, filmmakers, ..., raise their voices and reframe things.

In unison, they expressed the support of Moroccans, their friendship and their fraternal thanks to the Belgian volunteer girls who came to contribute to a humanitarian action.

"Belgian girls - as part of a humanitarian mission - come to build a road to open up a town near Taroudant, they are dressed in shorts, T-shirts, tank tops... What could be more normal, ordinary, usual?", they wonder.

For them, the call for decapitation by the 26-year-old teacher and the criticism of Ali El Asri, a deputy from the Islamist party (PJD, at the head of the governing coalition) are in no way tolerable because "they are not Morocco!"

Moreover, they demand that the teacher be prosecuted for glorifying terrorism and that the deputy resign. For these Moroccans, "it is unacceptable that such individuals thus take an entire population hostage".

"[...] let’s take out our shorts and let 10, 100, 1000 publish a profile photo on Facebook, dressed in shorts, let’s respond to immeasurable stupidity with humor, derision and brotherhood...", they launch.
