Morocco Arrests Over 27,000 Irregular Migration Suspects in 2019, Police Report

A total of 27,317 candidates for irregular migration, including 20,141 of foreign nationality, were arrested in 2019. This was announced this week by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
In addition to these arrests, the DGSN seized 3,021 fake travel documents or identity documents. In publishing its most important results for the year 2019, the police institution took the opportunity to present its program of actions for the year 2020. It indicated that it had arrested 505 organizers of illegal migration operations suspected of being involved in 62 criminal networks specializing in human trafficking and the organization of illegal migration.
Similarly, 990 individuals suspected of being linked to 509 active criminal networks involved in street robbery were arrested in 2019.
With regard to drug-related cases, 127,049 people were arrested, an increase of 38% compared to 2018, with a record set in the quantities of drugs seized, the same source said.
