Morocco: 14 Arrested for Violating COVID-19 Restrictions in Cafe

14 people were arrested in Azemmour. They would have consumed hot drinks inside a cafe, thus violating the state of health emergency. Referred on Wednesday before the prosecutor of the king of El Jadida, they are prosecuted in a state of provisional release.

It all started last Sunday, when the patrol in charge of enforcing the state of health emergency and the ban on gatherings caught the 14 defendants in the act. These are 11 customers caught in the act of consuming hot drinks inside the cafe located in the city center of Azemmour, reports the daily Al Massae. To these customers are added the owner of the cafe and two employees.

Arrested, the accused were placed in custody before being presented to the Parquet of El Jadida. The Prosecutor decided to prosecute them in a state of provisional release for violation of the state of health emergency decreed by the government on March 20, as part of the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.

For the record, the government, as part of the gradual deconfinement, has authorized cafes and restaurants to reopen but by limiting themselves to home delivery and take-out services.
