Two Arrested in Morocco for Public Ramadan Fast-Breaking and COVID Violations

Two young people were apprehended on Thursday by elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of Skhirat for breaking the fast during the day and violating the state of health emergency.
Apprehended in flagrante delicto, while smoking cigarettes and drinking sodas in the city center last Thursday, the two defendants were immediately referred by the judicial service of the Royal Gendarmerie of Skhirat, last Sunday, before the prosecutor of the king near the court of first instance of Témara, reports the daily Assabah.
According to the same daily, the public prosecutor, for the purposes of the investigation, ordered the extension of the custody which lasted three days, from Thursday to Sunday, May 10. As for the two accused, they were presented before the prosecutor of the king who questioned them and informed them of the sanctions set by the penal code for the offenses they had committed.
For its part, the court of first instance of Témara decided to present them before the judge in charge of flagrante delicto cases, for a remote trial in these times of pandemic.
During the trial, the indictment was notified to them on the basis of the evidence contained in the official reports of the judicial officers of the gendarmerie, namely the flagrante delicto of breaking the fast and the spontaneous confession of the accused as to the non-respect of Ramadan and the state of health emergency.
