Morocco armed brothers arrest Salé police shooting
Two brothers wanted for a homicide in Aïn Atiq were arrested Saturday in Laayayda, near Salé, following a tense intervention. Police officers and a gendarme opened fire.
The intervention took place on Saturday, June 20, in the middle of the day, in the Laayayda area, near Salé. According to the General Directorate of National Security, police officers were providing support to a Royal Gendarmerie team that came to arrest two brothers suspected of being involved in a murder committed in Aïn Atiq, in the outskirts of Rabat.

At the moment of their arrest, the two suspects allegedly put up violent resistance using bladed weapons. The scene was deemed dangerous for the officers mobilized and for people present on site. A police officer was notably wounded in the chest during the intervention.

Faced with this threat, a police officer and an inspector made use of their service weapons. The gunfire hit the two suspects, while a member of the Royal Gendarmerie also fired a shot. The two brothers were evacuated to a hospital for treatment, and the bladed weapons were seized. A judicial investigation was opened under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office to establish the exact circumstances of this case.
