Morocco and Spain Mend Diplomatic Ties After Crisis

The crisis between Spain and Morocco is gradually conjugating in the past. The two countries have expressed their willingness to renew ties on new bases.

The signs of the end of the crisis are visible. Rabat has accepted the repatriation of hundreds of minors who arrived in Ceuta in May, and King Mohammed VI, in his speech last Friday, reiterated the kingdom’s willingness to resume cooperation with Spain. All that remains is for Morocco to authorize its ambassador in Madrid to return to her post to relaunch the relations, reports EFE.

This resumption of relations is to the credit of the new Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, estimates the same source, who specifies that in less than two months, he has managed, discreetly, to reopen the dialogue with the Moroccan authorities. But the points of divergence such as Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the status of Ceuta and Melilla Spain Opens "Unlimited Dialogue" with Morocco on Sahara, Ceuta and Melilla remain to be ironed out.

Moreover, Morocco and Spain, due to their geographical proximity, are condemned to collaborate in the fight against illegal immigration.

Clearly, the resumption of relations between the two countries is on the right track. The most important thing now is to maintain the dialogue and reach an agreement on essential issues such as Ceuta and Melilla, the Sahara or immigration.
