The General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) of the Southern Zone hosted the general planning meeting for the African Lion 2023 exercise from January 9 to 20. This year’s edition will also see the participation of several countries, including African ones.

During this session, the Moroccan and American planners set the modalities for the execution of the various activities of the African Lion 2023 exercise, and defined the potential sites for the execution of the operation, indicates a press release from the general staff of the FAR.

These exercises will include, in addition to training in several operational areas, training on counter-terrorist operations, land, airborne, air, maritime and CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) decontamination exercises, the note said.

This year’s edition will be marked by the 20th anniversary of the bilateral cooperation between the FAR and the Utah National Guard, announced the FAR general staff. As part of the festivities, the two parties also set the modalities for the conduct of the mixed musical show between the FAR and the 23rd Band of the Utah State Army.

Scheduled to take place from May 22 to June 16, 2023 in the regions of Agadir, Tan Tan, Mehbes, Tiznit, Kenitra, Ben Guerir and Tifnit, "African Lion" is the largest multinational exercise on the African continent.
