Morocco and US Prepare for Major Military Exercise ’African Lion 2023’

About a hundred Moroccan and other country officers and non-commissioned officers have undergone a series of preparatory training sessions within the complex of the Southern Zone General Staff in Agadir, before the start on June 2 of African Lion 2023, the military exercises co-organized by Morocco and the United States.
The training focused on tactics, information, protection, intelligence, movements, maneuvers, as well as on the method of joint operational planning, medical planning, cybersecurity, etc. They ended on Friday with a ceremony to award certificates and diplomas to the participants, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
African Lion 2023 will be held from June 2 to 16 in seven regions of Morocco, namely Agadir, Benguerir, Kenitra, Mahbès, Tiznit, Tifnit and Tantan. Nearly 6,000 soldiers from about twenty African and foreign countries, Morocco and the United States, as well as 27 observer countries, are participating in these maneuvers carried out in the operational, land, airborne, air, maritime and CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) decontamination fields.
These military exercises aim to develop interoperability and strengthen the intervention capabilities of the armed forces of the participating countries in order to promote security and stability in the region. But above all, African Lion is proof of the vitality of the military cooperation between Morocco and the United States. A first preparatory meeting for the exercise was held from January 9 to 20 within the Southern Zone General Staff in Agadir, recalls the same source.
