Morocco to Accelerate COVID-19 Lockdown Easing from June 20, Minister Says

An acceleration from Saturday, June 20 of the process of gradual lifting of confinement awaits the Moroccans. This is what the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, confirms this Monday, while conditioning it however to the evolution of the epidemiological situation.
For the minister, we must continue to live with the virus, despite the easing of measures. However, instructions are given to the walis and governors to adapt to the assessment of the local health situation. This allows the implementation of the confinement easing device, informs the minister. Moreover, this assessment will allow the prefectures registered in zone 2 to access zone 1 whose deconfinement measures are more relaxed. But for cafes, restaurants and beaches, no measure is announced. Let us recall that it is following the grouping of some 700 active cases and future cases in the hospitals of Benslimane and Benguérir that the acceleration of the process of gradual lifting of confinement was announced two days ago.
The minister also reported on the assessment of the actions carried out by his department during the confinement period in place since March 20. According to this assessment, 8.8 million inhabitants have an exceptional travel authorization. 124 million dirhams are devoted to the distribution of food aid to 3.9 million people. 11,000 homeless people housed and fed. There are 570 hotels and accommodation centers mobilized to house medical personnel and other executives. 200,000 employees and 55,000 taxi drivers subjected to screening. 261 fines were issued against industrial units that did not comply with health measures.
