Moroccan Workers Lead Non-EU Foreign Labor Force in Spain, New Data Shows

Some 262,058 Moroccans affiliated with the social security system in Spain as of last December, according to figures from the Spanish Ministry of Integration, Social Security and Migration.

With this record figure, Moroccans remain at the top of the ranking of non-EU foreign workers contributing to social security in Spain, ahead of Chinese nationals.

In Spain, there are a total of 2,078,636 foreigners affiliated with social security. This figure recorded over the twelve months of 2020 is down 2.2% compared to 2019. Due to the coronavirus, there are 46,346 fewer active people, the same source notes.

Also according to the figures, some 1,331,206 people are from non-EU countries, while 747,430 are from European Union countries.

As of January 1st last, there are 864,546 Moroccans legally established in Spain. According to the latest publications of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this figure is up 6.3% compared to last year, the equivalent of 50,959 people.
