Moroccan Teen Missing After Attempted Illegal Sea Crossing to Spain

The parents of Ilias Kajat are completely distraught. They are searching in vain for their son, who left with other young people to join Spain. All attempts to get news of Ilias have so far been unsuccessful.
According to information gathered by El Faro de Ceuta from the family, Ilias would have left the house last Wednesday, for what his parents thought was a simple walk. But the 19-year-old Moroccan had planned to illegally travel to Spain. The family is conducting research to find out what really happened and, above all, if the young man is still alive.
Ilias’ parents are fighting to gather information that could help them locate their child. His relatives wanted to file a missing person report with the Directorate General of Police, but they were notified, according to El Faro de Ceuta, that only direct parents are authorized to do so. They are therefore directed to the Spanish consulate in Tetouan.
On Saturday, a makeshift boat was found about 22 miles off the coast of Ceuta. But it was empty. Ilias’ family had in the meantime been informed that shipwrecked people had been rescued. It is total despair within the families who see their children disappear into the waves of the ocean because they are in search of the Eldorado.
