Moroccan Taxi Drivers Threaten Nationwide Strike Over Government Inaction

To protest against the "silence of the government in the face of their demands", taxi owners threaten to observe a national strike starting June 25 next.
This decision follows a meeting held last week that brought together the union bodies represented within the national coordination of the taxi sector and the professionals, said the secretary general of the General Union of Unionist Workers in Morocco.
The main demands of these professionals concern the amendment of certain provisions of memorandum 444, in particular the deprivation of the rights of the operators of the transport permits, recalls the official.
He added that these same actors will soon meet to decide on the day of the announced strike, as well as the place where the professionals will gather to protest against this memorandum.
For the record, the coordination canceled a previous strike project in Casablanca, scheduled for May 25 last, due to the promises made by the city authorities to open a responsible dialogue on this memorandum.
