Morocco Overhauls Taxi License System, Limits Operators to One Permit

In Morocco, the Ministry of the Interior has introduced new changes in the taxi sector affecting the management of licenses. From now on, no more accumulation of licenses.
The Ministry of the Interior has decided to put an end to the accumulation of licenses. Since last Monday, the various services under the department of Abdelouafi Laftit no longer accept files for the rental of licenses managed by one and the same person, reports the Arabic-language daily Assabah. From now on, each professional will receive a single license. The only possibility offered to those who manage several licenses is to form legal entities.
The introduction of these new changes follows the intervention of a deputy, also a representative of the Moroccan Union of Labor (UMT) in Parliament in the presence of the Minister of Transport. The elected official denounced the fact that a single person holding 200 licenses could benefit from substantial aid of 320,000 DH as part of the recent support measures for carriers put in place by the State. Thus, this new initiative of the Ministry of the Interior will not only promote better targeting of aid dedicated to carriers, but will also help fight tax evasion in this sector.
Initiatives have already been taken for the success of this new undertaking. According to prefectural sources, this new initiative of the Ministry of the Interior was on the agenda of meetings organized with the heads of the various services under this department. All the stakeholders have also received training to implement the provisions taken by the Interior for the management of this sector.
