Moroccan Restaurant Industry Urges Priority Vaccination for Food Service Workers

Heavily impacted by the Covid-19 crisis, food service professionals want to resume their activities quickly. They have proposed to the government to prioritize employees in their sectors during the vaccination campaign.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Saâd-Eddine El Othmani, the Ministers of Health, Khalid Aït Taleb and the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, caterers, bakeries-pastries, cafes, restaurants, etc., gathered within the Moroccan Confederation of Food Trades (CMMB) plead to be vaccinated first because of "the role they play in the daily life of citizens", and the fact that people working in these professions are "in direct contact with people".

For this association, the vaccination of food trade professionals should contribute to "the objective of achieving collective immunity" to definitively curb the Covid-19 epidemic.

On Friday, January 22, Morocco received the first doses of the British AstraZeneca vaccine, manufactured in India. As for the first delivery of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, it is scheduled for Wednesday, January 27. As for the vaccination campaign, it should officially start next week.

According to the set program, only health professionals, security forces, administrative staff and the elderly or at-risk people will be vaccinated first.
