Moroccan Radio Names Steeplechaser Bakkali, Boxer Mardi Top Athletes of 2019

Athlete Sofiane Bakkali and boxer Khadija Mardi are the two best Moroccan athletes of the year 2019, according to the survey conducted by the sports department of Moroccan public radio.
Contrary to previous editions, the 41st edition of the selection of the best athlete of the year took place outside the radio studios. It was attended by renowned personalities from the world of sports and the media.
This year, individual sports took the lion’s share of team sports. In this regard, Soufiane Bakkali, holder of the bronze medal in the 3000 steeplechase, at the World Championships (September 27 to October 6, 2019) in Doha, received 137 points. He is followed by the boxer Khadija Mardi (130 points), who won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Russia.
During this edition, other athletes also managed to stand out, such as the judoka, Imad Bassou, silver medalist at the African Judo Championships; the athlete Mehdi Sadiki, bronze medalist in triathlon at the African Championships in Mauritius; the judoka Sanaa Aguelmam (55 points), etc.
Proud to win these titles, the two recipients have promised to honor the Moroccan flag even more worthily in the upcoming sports events, particularly at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
