Moroccan Steeplechase Star El Bakkali Sets Sights on Olympic Gold in Tokyo

The Moroccan athlete, Soufiane El Bakkali, 2017 world vice-champion in the 3,000m steeplechase in London, is aiming for Olympic gold in Tokyo this year.
The 3,000m steeplechase specialist wants to restore the luster of Moroccan athletics. To this end, the Moroccan athlete said on Tuesday in Casablanca that he is aiming for the gold medal at the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games.
In his speech, during a press conference on the occasion of his selection among the athletes who will be supported by the company "VISA" at the next Olympics, the athlete said that his preparations are "in the best conditions". He was delighted with the "significant boost" given to his career by his sponsor.
Buoyed by the experience gained and the performances achieved over the course of his six-year career, he specified that his participation in Tokyo will be an opportunity to "send a strong message to all young Moroccans who want to succeed in life, by showing them that anything is possible with determination, passion and integrity".
Ranked No. 1 in the 3,000m steeplechase by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), in view of his achievements on the world circuit, the athlete wants to add this gold medal to his trophy case.
