Moroccan Princess Lalla Meryem Turns 61: Royal Humanitarian Celebrates Birthday

The royal family is celebrating, this Saturday, August 26, 2023, the 61st birthday of Princess Lalla Meryem, the eldest sister of King Mohammed VI and the first child of the late Hassan II.
Born in Rome, Italy, on August 26, 1962, while the royal family was on vacation, Lalla Meryem held a special place with her father, who had entrusted her at a very young age with many humanitarian and social projects.
UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Lalla Meryem also chairs the Moroccan Association for Support to UNICEF, the Moroccan National Observatory of Children’s Rights and the Hassan II Foundation for the Social Works of Former Military and Former Combatants.
A militant princess known for her commitment to underprivileged social groups, Lalla Meryem is the mother of two children, Lalla Soukaïna and Moulay Idriss, born from her marriage to Fouad Filali, former boss of the Omnium nord-africain (ONA) and son of the former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdellatif Filali.
