Moroccan Police Seize 9.5 Tons of Drugs in Major Highway Bust

A drug trafficking operation in Sidi Allal El-Bahraoui, in the province of Khémisset, was thwarted by elements of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ), aided by several security services.
This operation was carried out in coordination with the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie at the toll booth of the Sidi Allal El-Bahraoui highway, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release. The agents intercepted a refrigerated truck transporting a total of 380 drug bales of about 9.5 tons, hidden in a cargo of food products.
In addition to the quantity of drugs seized, the truck driver was arrested and taken into custody. The sum of 31,800 dirhams, suspected of coming from activities related to these criminal acts, was also seized. An investigation was opened by the BNPJ, under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, in order to determine the extent of this criminal activity and to dismantle the network.
