Massive Drug Bust: 7 Tons of Hashish Seized from Fishing Boat off Moroccan Coast

A major operation to intercept international drug trafficking by sea was thwarted and nearly seven tons of hashish were seized in the early hours of this Friday, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). Arrested on board a boat, the 7 suspects were taken into custody for the needs of the investigation.
The joint security operation, carried out by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police and the maritime patrols of the Royal Gendarmerie and the Royal Navy in collaboration with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), revealed the involvement of sailors operating on a coastal fishing boat, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The boat was intercepted at Kenitra, 54 km off Mehdia, the statement continues, specifying that the seven people arrested on board this boat are suspected of links with a criminal network active in international drug trafficking.
During the searches carried out on the boat, dozens of drug bales weighing a total of about 7 tons of hashish, some of which were thrown overboard by the suspects, were seized. In addition, the investigation opened as part of this operation has been entrusted to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of this case and identify all the accomplices of these criminal acts.
