Moroccan Police Seize 2.5 Tons of Cannabis in Major Drug Bust Near Errachidia

The elements of the prefectural judicial police service of Errachidia seized, on Saturday, 2.5 tons of cannabis resin and arrested an individual who would be involved in the affairs of an international drug and psychotropic trafficking network.
The operation was carried out in a rural area west of Goulmima, in coordination with the services of the Royal Gendarmerie, said the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release. The 39-year-old suspect was intercepted in flagrante delicto of transporting a drug cargo on board a utility vehicle.
In addition to the charges against him, he must answer to that of endangering the lives of others, for having refused to comply and tried to flee. Three warning shots from the service weapon of a police officer allowed his arrest. The searches carried out in the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 97 bales of chira weighing a total of 2.5 tons, two shotgun cartridges, 360 kg of cannabis ears and 70 kg of contraband tobacco powder.
The operation also made it possible to intercept another light vehicle abandoned by its driver and containing four bales of cannabis ears weighing 100 kg, 950 grams of chira and 28 kg of contraband tobacco. The accused is known to the police as he was the subject of a national arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in a case of voluntary homicide. He was taken into custody for the investigation opened to identify any local and international ramifications of this criminal activity.
