Moroccan Police Seize 2 Tons of Cannabis, Arrest Suspect in Laayoune Drug Bust
The elements of the prefectural service of the judicial police of Laayoune seized, on Sunday evening, nearly two tons of chira, followed by the arrest of a man who, according to the precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), would be involved in a criminal network active in drug and psychotropic trafficking.
The suspect was arrested in the city of Laayoune, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). It was the investigations and inquiries that made it possible to locate the drug cargo that was hidden in a desert area about 10 km from the city of Smara. It is 56 packets of cannabis resin hidden under the sand. The police also seized a vehicle that would be used for these criminal activities.
The accused was placed in custody at the disposal of the investigation opened to determine the exact circumstances of this case, and to arrest all the alleged accomplices of these criminal acts, the statement from the DGSN said.
