Massive Drug Bust: Over 2 Tons of Cannabis Seized in Casablanca Truck Sting

Some 2 tons of cannabis resin were seized, Wednesday, on board a freight truck in the suburbs of Casablanca.
The operation took place at the Tit Mellil toll booth on the outskirts of Casablanca where elements of the anti-gang brigade of the Judicial Police of the city intercepted a truck loaded with 2 tons and 340 kilograms of chira packaged in 4357 pieces of wood, reveals a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The driver of the truck coming from a city in the north of the kingdom who was accompanied by his 17-year-old son, were arrested during the operation, for their alleged links with a criminal network of international drug trafficking. According to the DGSN, the defendant was taken into custody and the minor was placed under police surveillance. The investigation is actively ongoing under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office to determine the possible ramifications of this criminal network at the national and international levels.
The operation was carried out in coordination with the services of the Royal Gendarmerie and on the basis of precise information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), adds the same source.
