Several thousand contract teachers demonstrated on Wednesday in the center of Rabat to demand their integration into the civil service. Banned, the demonstration was violently dispersed by the security forces.
At least 16 teachers were arrested, according to the National Coordination of Contract Teachers. Scheduled to last three days, these demonstrations were also launched to support teachers being tried before the Court of First Instance of Rabat.
The demonstrations resumed on Thursday, according to the Coordination, which assures that "the repressive approach" will not prevent the teachers from continuing "the legitimate struggle until all the demands are met".
