Moroccans Rally Against Soaring Prices as Cost of Living Crisis Deepens

Hundreds of people demonstrated on Sunday in several Moroccan cities against the high cost of living, following the recent surge in fuel and basic commodity prices.
These demonstrations coincide with the 11th anniversary of the wave of protests known as the February 20 movement, inspired by the pro-democratic uprisings of the Arab Spring.
In Rabat, the demonstration took place in front of the parliament building. Holding placards, the protesters chanted slogans against the government for its inability to control the surge in prices, which has led more people to fall into poverty, reports Alyaoum24.
In Casablanca, protesters demanded the immediate intervention of the government to improve the purchasing power of the population.
In response to the many cries of distress, the Moroccan government noted that the country is facing one of the worst droughts in recent years, while its economy is heavily dependent on the agricultural sector, the primary contributor to GDP at 14%.
