Moroccan Court Sentences 45 Teachers for Protest Participation

The 45 contract teachers who were arrested last year during the demonstrations that took place in Rabat have been informed of their fate. They were sentenced to various sentences by the court of first instance in Rabat.
According to the national coordination of contract teachers, the court sentenced 19 teachers to two months in prison with a suspended sentence, while 25 others received two months in prison with a suspended sentence and a fine of 1,000 dirhams. Only one teacher, named Nezha Majdi, was sentenced to 3 months in prison.
On Thursday, dozens of contract teachers demonstrated in front of the court of first instance in Rabat and in other cities, protesting the legal proceedings against their colleagues. They threaten to harden the movement and "paralyze" the rest of the current school year if the authorities do not backtrack.
