Moroccan Party Urges Reclamation of Ceuta and Melilla Amid Diplomatic Tensions with Spain

The Istiqlal party has once again called on Morocco to recover Sebta and Melilla, which it considers Moroccan and African lands. This was on the occasion of the weekly meeting of the party’s executive committee held in person on Friday, June 11, 2021.
The diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Spain was on the agenda of this meeting. The executive committee reaffirmed that by allowing the emergency admission of the Polisario leader under a false identity in Spain, the government has blatantly violated laws, diplomatic norms and the rules of good neighborliness, reports the newspaper L’Opinion. It denounces an unfriendly and shocking act for the Moroccan people.
For the Istiqlal party, the northern neighbor "has turned its back on all the efforts made by Morocco to support and assist it in many strategic files, such as the fight against terrorism, illegal immigration, and the fight against drugs, as well as in the crises it has gone through, including the crisis of Spanish fishermen and the crisis of the secession of the Catalonia province."
The executive committee also rejected certain parts of the content of the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on Thursday, June 10, 2021. It also deplores the manipulation of this institution used as a tool in the political crisis between Morocco and Spain. Nizar Baraka’s party is convinced that Spain’s attitude will have a negative impact on the future of relations between the two countries.
The executive committee of the Istiqlal Party has also reiterated its call for the recovery of the occupied enclaves, Sebta, Melilla and the Jaâfarines islands, as Moroccan and African lands, by the force of historical facts and geographical reality.
