Arab Parliament Declares Ceuta and Melilla 'Moroccan Cities' Amid EU-Morocco Tensions

The Arab Parliament, the legislative body of the Arab League, has voted an emergency resolution recognizing the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla as "Moroccan cities".

The Arab Parliament has taken an emergency resolution attesting that the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, "vestiges of colonization", are Moroccan. This decision of the parliament comes in response to the condemnation of Morocco by the European Union, which accuses the kingdom of "instrumentalizing" migrants for political purposes, in reference to the migration crisis in Ceuta.

The Arab Parliament has also passed another resolution asking the European Parliament not to interfere in the crisis between Spain and Morocco, triggered by the reception of Brahim Ghali, the leader of the Polisario Front, in a hospital in Logrono, against the backdrop of the conflict in the Sahara. According to the Arab parliamentarians, the criticisms towards Morocco "contradict the rules of parliamentary diplomacy".

The president of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin AbdulRahman, has strongly condemned the attitude of Europe, which does not seem to recognize Morocco’s efforts in the fight against illegal immigration.
