Moroccan Nurse Sentenced to 5 Years for Rape of Minor Who Later Died by Suicide

The court of first instance in Safi sentenced on Thursday a nurse to five years in prison and the payment of 80,000 dirhams in damages to the family of the girl he raped in Youssoufia last August and who subsequently committed suicide due to psychological distress.
The victim’s family, residing in Youssoufia, found her body in her room last August. The competent public prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of her death. According to the forensic report, the young girl had been sexually assaulted before taking her own life by consuming nitric acid.

An investigation was opened on the orders of the prosecutor of the king near the court of appeal of Safi. The initial results indicate that the victim had been raped by a former retired nurse who was working in a hospital in Youssoufia.
