Moroccan Lawmaker Faces Rape Charges Involving Disabled Minor

A deputy member of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and mayor has been questioned and summoned to appear on February 22 for a case of sexual assault. The victim is not only a minor but also suffers from mental deficiency.
According to the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the investigating judge in charge of this case has requested that detailed investigations be carried out so that there are no gray areas. The case came to light following the dissemination of a video in which the victim claims to have been raped by the parliamentarian during the summer of 2020.
The deputy is said to have put pressure on the victim, a member of the party’s youth organization, but the matter has become public. Some members of the same organization saw it as an opportunity to make money and blackmailed the parliamentarian. According to the daily, they are said to have extorted large sums of money from him.
The parliamentarian thought he was out of trouble, but without counting on the determination of the prosecutor who decided to take a closer look at the victim’s withdrawal of the complaint, and demanded the opening of an investigation to find out the reasons why the victim filed a complaint and then withdrew it.
After hearing the deputy, the court of first instance looked into the case. For the Attorney General, there was no rape with violence, but multiple sexual abuse of a minor. This is the charge that the RNI deputy will have to answer in a month.
