Moroccan Religious Scholar Arrested for Alleged Sexual Abuse of 11-Year-Old

Last Tuesday, the royal gendarmerie brigade of Ain Aouda brought before the competent general prosecutor’s office in Rabat, a fkih accused of raping an 11-year-old minor. In front of the prosecutor, the accused did not deny the facts attributed to him. He was therefore placed in detention in prison, reports the daily Assabah.

According to the newspaper, the 60-year-old religious leader, father of three children, took advantage of the naivety and innocence of the little girl to abuse her in an empty and abandoned house, not far from his home. As soon as he committed his crime, he tried to flee, but local residents and members of the victim’s family managed to neutralize him until the arrival of the elements of the royal gendarmerie brigade of Ain Aouda.

Arrested and taken to the gendarmerie station, he declared that he regularly abused his victim, without going so far as to make her lose her virginity. The medical examination confirmed this statement. Believing he could slip away and escape punishment, the accused expressed the wish to marry the victim when she reaches the legal age.

Investigators are conducting further investigations to determine if the man is not a repeat offender in the region, and if there are not other sexual abuses and rapes in the locality of Ain Aouda, where he had already worked in a Koranic school.
