Moroccan Court Sentences Former Worker to Prison for Egg Theft from Politician’s Farm

The Marrakech Court of Appeal has sentenced a former worker of MP Abdellatif Zaim, accused of stealing eggs, to two years in prison, including one year in prison.
In addition to the prison sentence, the former worker of the PAM elected official must pay a fine of 20,000 DH to the company "Hanane et Adiba", of Abdellatif Zaim, which was a civil party in the case, reports Al Akhbar. Accused of having stolen 3,000 eggs in one go, the man was prosecuted for "forming a criminal gang and theft". According to the defense explanations of the accused, "the deputy often resorts to justice by accusing his workers of theft when the latter claim their rights".
This is not the first time that a worker of the MP Abdellatif Zaim (PAM), a major egg producer in the Benguerir region, has been sentenced to prison for stealing eggs. The court of first instance in this region had sentenced a worker to one month in prison in January 2021, accompanied by a fine of 130 DH for the theft of 16 eggs.
This case had provoked the anger of the party’s activists. They had denounced a persecution against the worker. But the PAM deputy claimed that his former employee was regularly stealing eggs from his factory. In total, 10,800 eggs. The defense lawyer had formally rejected this accusation. The accused will eventually confess. She admitted to having stolen 16 eggs for the first time in her life.
