Moroccan Web Series #TaAnaMeToo Breaks Silence on Sexual Assault

In addition to being physically and psychologically shattered, victims of rape in Morocco are likely to be accused of having had sex outside of marriage and risk being imprisoned under Article 490. It is therefore to raise awareness among rape victims to externalize that the Moroccan filmmaker Nabil Ayouch has produced an animated web series called #TaAnaMeToo, in which raped women deliver poignant testimonies about the worst day of their lives.
Produced by the creative studio Jawjab, a subsidiary of Ali’n Productions founded by the Moroccan filmmaker, this web series is a first in the Arab world. #TaAnaMeToo (me too #meetoo) aim to break the silence surrounding sexual assaults. In Morocco, 6.6% of raped women dare to file a complaint, while one Moroccan woman in two claims to have been a victim of violence, according to a 2019 survey by the Ministry of Family.
#TaAnaMeToo is a set of testimonies delivered by raped women who have remained silent for years, under the pressure of a society capable of judging and condemning. The victims have decided, for the first time therefore, to speak out in #TaAnaMeToo. "I signed my death warrant the day I got married: marital rape is the worst of all, because it happens every night. As soon as night fell, I had a lump in my throat. I was afraid. So I arranged to go to bed very early, before he got home from work. But in vain: he would wake me up and force me to have sex with him," confides a woman in one of the videos.
"I was 10 years old when my brother started raping me. And it lasted for several years," whispers another, who confesses
