Moroccan PM and Education Minister Summoned in School Accident Insurance Case

The Youssoufia court has summoned the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch and Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, in the context of a case related to the insurance of a student, victim of an accident in her school, Sultan Moulay El Hassan.
Victim of a leg fracture during a physical education class, a student from the Sultan Moulay El Hassan college in Youssoufia did not receive any compensation from the insurance covering the school, even though she obtained a medical certificate of incapacity for a period of 30 days. Her file was simply rejected without the reasons for the refusal being communicated to the family. The court should rule on its validity.
Impatient, the student’s father brought the case to court. He explains to Al Massae the reasons behind this decision: his daughter was, at the time of the accident, under the responsibility of her physical education teacher; she is regularly registered and the insurance fees were paid at the time of enrollment. The refusal of the insurance company to compensate the victim on the pretext of contractual conditions concluded with the Ministry of Education is incomprehensible to the victim’s father. According to him, this refusal is synonymous with non-compliance with the regulatory commitments governing the coverage of students.
Following the complaint filed by the student’s father, the Youssoufia court summoned the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, the Regional Academy of Education of Marrakech-Safi, as well as the Provincial Academy of Education of Youssoufia. The trial will open on December 21 next.
