Moroccan Lawmaker’s Son Gets 4 Months for Fatal Hit-and-Run with Uninsured Vehicle

The court of first instance in Fez sentenced the son of a deputy to four months in prison for involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run. He caused a traffic accident with an uninsured vehicle.
While he was driving on a road leading to a tourist station belonging to his father in the constituency of Moulay Yacoub, the son of a deputy hit two young people, reports Assabah. One died on the spot, the other was injured. After causing this accident, he fled to an unknown destination.
The police managed to identify the accused, arrest him and place him in custody. It was discovered that his car was not insured. Referred to the public prosecutor’s office, the son of the parliamentarian was prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run, then placed in pre-trial detention in the Bourkaiz prison, near Fez.
At his first appearance before the court of first instance in Fez, on October 29, the lawyer of the accused filed a request for release, which was rejected by the public prosecutor. At the second hearing, he was sentenced to 4 months in prison and a fine of 1,000 DH. He is also required to pay 60,000 DH to the Guarantee Fund for Road Accidents and 38,000 DH to the customs administration. He will also have to attend, at his own expense, a road safety education session at the specialized institute of applied technology located in the Al Adarrissa district of Fez.
