Morocco’s PM: Border Reopening Depends on COVID Situation, Decision to Come ’Last Minute’

Faced with the many pressures calling for the reopening of borders, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch reacted, stating that this measure will take place depending on the epidemiological evolution in the country and in the world.
The decision to reopen the borders is a decision that can only be made at the "last moment," Akhannouch said during his intervention on 2M, specifying that several parameters come into play before deciding on the issue.
Responding to attacks regarding the appropriateness or not of closing the borders, the head of the executive recalled that this measure was important and imposed by the spread of the Omicron variant, and aimed to give the government time to better identify the risks it presented.
In addition, Aziz Akhannouch addressed the issue of the repatriation of Moroccans stranded abroad, stressing that arrangements have been made to facilitate the return of as many citizens as possible.
