Moroccan Notary and Wife Arrested for Multi-Million Dirham Fraud Scheme

The elements of the judicial police of Tangier in collaboration with those of Tetouan have arrested a notary and his wife, accused of embezzlement, fraud and issuing checks without provision. Several arrest warrants had been issued against them.

The notary and his wife, aged 46 and 43 respectively, are suspected of embezzlement, fraud and breach of trust, as well as issuing checks without provision amounting to millions of dirhams, reports Al Akhbar. The security services of Tetouan had issued 16 arrest warrants against the public officer for issuing checks without provision (more than 10 million dirhams) and 8 others against his wife for unpaid checks of 4.7 million dirhams.

The judicial police of Tangier first managed to arrest the notary before arresting his wife. Their potential victims had in the meantime approached the public prosecutor’s office to reveal new cases in which they would be involved and which are almost all related to urban planning and housing, while the bodies governing the profession had already struck off the notary. Pending the completion of the judicial investigation, the couple has been placed in pre-trial detention.
