Moroccan Imams Head to France for Ramadan 2026
The Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad (MRE) has announced the dispatch of a delegation of 320 religious figures to provide spiritual guidance during Ramadan to the Moroccan community, a significant portion of which is in France. The mission, composed mainly of academics, will begin on 16 February.
As the holy month approaches, Morocco is mobilizing its ulema to support its diaspora. The Hassan II Foundation for MRE has finalized the arrangements for its “Ramadan 2026” operation, which will see 320 religious officials deployed around the world starting next 16 February.

The delegation stands out for its strong academic profile, including 39 university professors, 50 PhD holders and 60 master’s degree holders. Their mission will be to deliver sermons, host lectures and lead Tarawih prayers in places of worship frequented by Moroccan nationals.

The geographical distribution of personnel reflects the size of the Moroccan community abroad. Europe accounts for the majority of the contingent: France will welcome 82 members, followed by Spain and Germany (51 each), Belgium (42), the Netherlands (35) and Italy (26). The initiative also covers North America (14 in Canada and 6 in the United States) and extends to the Scandinavian countries and Iceland.
