Moroccan Imam Sentenced to 8 Years for Raping Visually Impaired Woman
An imam was sentenced to eight years in prison for the rape of a young visually impaired woman by the Court of First Instance in Rabat. The religious leader would have attracted the young girl to his home under the pretext of providing her with traditional treatment for her epilepsy.
Despite the defense’s attempt to prove the imam’s inability to have sexual relations, an argument refuted by the judges, the latter was found guilty, reports Assabah. The allegations of impotence presented by one of his wives did not convince either, the man being polygamous and the father of 14 children!
The imam in question, who officiated in a mosque in the province of Khemisset, had been held in pre-trial detention for five months, following the victim’s complaint. The latter had promised him that he was ready to divorce his two wives if she withdrew her complaint. The young girl, having recorded all her conversations with the imam, chose to go to a clinic for fear of being pregnant.
