Moroccan Imam Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Quranic School Students

Accused of raping a 12-year-old child and his 7-year-old sister, a Moroccan imam faces up to 20 years in prison. The two minors were studying in his Quranic school.
The imam of a mosque in a pedophilia case. It all starts with the discovery of traces of assault on a brother and sister, aged 12 and 7 respectively. Questioned by their parents, the children confessed that "it was the imam of the mosque where they were studying who had left these traces of violence," reports the Arabic daily Al Akhbar. The father of the two minors then filed a complaint with the royal gendarmerie services. After hearing the plaintiffs and the accused, the file was forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Subsequently, the royal gendarmerie services were instructed to arrest the 62-year-old imam. The two victims were also subjected to a medical examination, which confirmed that they had been raped. The alleged rapist will be brought before the courts this week. He faces sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years in prison provided for by the Penal Code for cases of rape on minors under 18 years of age.
