Moroccan Expat Caught Smuggling $50,000 in Gold Jewelry at Tanger Med Port

The customs elements on duty at the port of Tanger Med seized a large quantity of smuggled gold jewelry. The suspect is a Moroccan residing abroad.
About 975 grams of gold jewelry were found by the customs elements operating in Tangier. These jewels, which did not benefit from any prior declaration and usual procedures with the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration, were hidden in the luggage of the Moroccan residing abroad. He thought he could deceive the vigilance of the customs, reports the MAP.
Subjected to technical expertise, the jewelry is estimated at 500,000 dirhams, we learn from a customs source. The person concerned, who resides in Italy, was taken into custody, pending the completion of the investigation opened to determine if he is part of a network, and in this case, to identify all the people involved.
