Moroccan Expat Caught Smuggling 54,000 Euros at Tanger-Med Port

A sum of 54,160 euros undeclared was seized at the port of Tanger Med. The operation was carried out by the joint brigade of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration operating at the port.
It was a control and search operation of a vehicle registered abroad that led to the seizure of this sum hidden in luggage, said a customs source. The money would belong to a Moroccan residing abroad (MRE), more precisely in Spain.
The same source added that the person concerned was trying to take this sum in currency out of the country without prior declaration to the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration. A report was drawn up in order to continue the administrative procedures in force.
