Moroccan Court Sentences Man to 20 Years for Attempted Murder of Police Officer

The Court of Appeal of El Jadida sentenced a man, prosecuted for attempted voluntary manslaughter on a police officer, to 20 years in prison. Another individual, also involved in the same case, was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
Arrested in September last by the national judicial police brigade of Azzemour, the two individuals, aged 24 and 22, were prosecuted for attempted manslaughter on an officer during the performance of his duties, public drunkenness and premeditated violence.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the two defendants, who had been arrested while intoxicated, posed a real threat to public order.
At the time of their arrest, the two men had shown fierce resistance, seriously injuring a police officer already admitted to intensive care.
