Casablanca Man Gets 20 Years for Premeditated Murder of Friend After Drunken Dispute

A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the criminal chamber of the Casablanca Court of Appeal for premeditated voluntary manslaughter and ambush.
This homicide stemmed from a trivial story between two heavily intoxicated friends when the defendant, Saïd, stung by a violent anger, went home to get a knife. Back at the crime scene, the accused struck him first in the back with a knife, before finishing him off, cold-bloodedly, with a second one to the chest, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc.
Mortally wounded by these two blows, the 28-year-old victim died on the spot. Arrested, the accused, subjected to questioning, confessed his crime, while revealing the motive for his homicide.
At the bar, Saïd tried to exculpate himself by alleging self-defense. But his statements were rejected by eyewitnesses to the crime, including a night watchman. Backed into a corner, he confirmed the story, while specifying that the motive for the crime was a joint.
Faced with this criminal act, the public prosecutor’s office demanded the maximum sentence against the accused. His lawyer opposed this, asking the court to grant his client mitigating circumstances. At the end of the trial, the judge sentenced him to 20 years in prison for premeditated voluntary manslaughter and ambush.
