Moroccan City of Taroudant Imposes 15-Day Lockdown Amid COVID-19 Surge

The inhabitants of Taroudant will spend the new year under new restrictive measures imposed by the local authorities, for the next 15 days. This is the decision taken by the authorities to deal with the abnormally high rate of contamination.
This 15-day extension, which comes into effect this Monday, December 21, 2020, has mainly been taken following a sharp increase in the number of infections in recent weeks, according to a statement from the provincial monitoring committee.
To enter or leave Taroudant, you will need to have a special travel authorization, except for health and professional reasons. The ban on cafes from broadcasting football matches remains in effect. The closure of gardens, public squares and children’s playgrounds and the closure of shops and cafes will take place from 9 p.m.Hespress.
The authorities call on the population to strictly respect these provisions, under penalty of being subject to the rigor of the law. The security forces have received the necessary instructions to strengthen the rigorous control of compliance with preventive measures (wearing a mask, physical distancing).
